Trendelburg Fortress has experienced changing fortunes as legal seat and official residence since its construction in the High Middle Ages. Damages incurred during the Thirty Years War and the Seven Years War were repeatedly repaired, so that the well-preserved fortifications, now housing a hotel and restaurant, provide a unique experience to guests and visitors, some of whom come as tourists from overseas. The fortress courtyard is open to the public. The view from the fortress walls is stunning. A guided tour of the fortress takes you through the fortifications and buildings and gives you a chance to inspect the historical rooms of the palace. Further offerings include wedding ceremonies in the former fortress chapel or a Knight's Feast in Medieval atmosphere. The Rapunzel tower recalls the famous Brothers Grimm fairy tale, told during a performance or in the course of the guided tour.
